About
Velvet Cherry is a NZ clothing and costume custom design service, created by Fiona Brown. Our intimate studio is in a vintage storefront on upper Cuba Street, in Wellington’s convenient Te Aro neighborhood.
As part of Wellington’s vibrant arts community, Fiona’s design achievements, as seen in her portfolio, include:
- Corsetry/body shaping since 2006
- Designed and created costumes for Fringe Festival play Brainpower in 2007, which won the Best Design award for the festival
- Costumes for independent films, including the internationally distributed short Copper
- Costumes for World of Wearable Arts in 2011
In 2012, she established Velvet Cherry and “I’ve been busy ever since – and getting busier and busier. I love clothing and fabrics, and I love seeing my clients happy with their new creations. My specialties are Victorian, Lolita and Steampunk clothing…but I’ve created everything from bridal gowns out of fine silks to really wild fetish and festival gear.”
