How much do your garments cost? Do I have to pay in advance?
Here is a general price range list for 2026. A 50% deposit is required for all commissions.
- Simple skirts and vests – $150
- Bustles, hoopskirts, and detailed skirts – $200 to $350
- Custom corsetry – starting at $700
- Jackets and coats – $350 to $900
- Complete Victorian/Steampunk outfit – $800 to $4000
- Evening and bridal – $900 to $5000
I am on a budget, can I still have a garment from Velvet Cherry?
Yes! We have three recommendations for purchasers on a budget. Work with cotton or our recommended synthetic fabrics: design garments with simpler lines: and ask about our pre-made garments in stock. After you have paid your 50% deposit, we can discuss a payment plan for the remaining 50%. How long does it take to have a garment made by Velvet Cherry?
At this time we have a 4 working week waiting period for custom/commission garments.
Sending your measurements for a commission
If you are sending us your starting measurements, please send us the following in centimeters:
- Bust/chest
- Waist
- Hips
- Shoulders
- Arm length
- Your overall height
Please also include any comments about your overall physique. Any photographs are very helpful. You can send them when we correspond after your first message.
We need outfits for a group of people for a wedding/theatre production/film. Can you help us?
Yes, we can do outfits for groups, including bridesmaids, groomsmen, film casts, and theatre. But please contact us as soon as possible. We recommend six to eight weeks to sew for a group.
Do I have to visit Velvet Cherry in person for a fitting?
For some garments, we can work 100% with a remote client from measurements. These garments include skirts, bustles, jackets, coats, and some dresses.
How do you take your own measurements? We admire these instructions from Thread Theory Canada. YouTube also has many useful videos on taking your own measurements. Please provide measurements in centimeters.
For corsetry, bridal, or very fitted garments, we require an in-person fitting. We also recommend a fitting for plus size clients.
What fabrics do you use at Velvet Cherry?
All our fabrics are very high quality. We seek to use natural fibers wherever possible – cotton, silk, linen, and wool. If we use a synthetic, such as a polyester taffeta, it is very high quality. We recommend working with us directly to choose fabrics and trims. We have a curated selection of quality fabric available in our unique store stash!
Do you make men’s clothing at Velvet Cherry?
Yes, we make men’s clothing, including made to measure suits and made to measure shirts. We have also created historical garments and detailed costumes for men. See the Tailoring, Shirts, and Grooms categories in our gallery.
