Velvet Cherry is your source for custom clothing in Wellington, New Zealand. We are a NZ clothing and costume custom design service, created by Fiona Brown. Our intimate studio is in a vintage storefront on upper Cuba Street, in Wellington’s convenient Te Aro neighbourhood. We also have a workroom in the Miramar area of Wellington.
Fiona Brown’s design experience
As part of Wellington’s vibrant arts community, Fiona’s design work includes:
- Corsetry and body shaping since 2006
- Designed and created costumes for Fringe Festival play Brainpower in 2007, which won the Best Design Award for the festival
- Costumes for independent films, including the internationally distributed short Copper
- Costumes for World of Wearable Arts
- Burlesque and drag stage wear and quick-change outfits
- Custom vestments for churches
In 2012, she established Velvet Cherry and “I’ve been busy ever since – and staying busy. I love clothing and fabrics, and I love seeing my clients happy with their new creations. My specialties are Victorian, Goth, and Steampunk clothing…but I’ve created everything from bridal gowns out of fine silks to really wild fetish and festival gear. I’m really enjoying creating masculine wear and men’s suiting.”

In this age of AI, please know that our website images are all photos of real clothing that really exists. Sometimes our photos aren’t perfect. Occasionally we adjust the images of backgrounds (by hand, using Photoshop) to keep a picture’s focus on the clothing. We want to share special thanks with all our clients who have sent photos for us to use here.
